Shakespeare Off The Map

A number of student teams from the HATII Game Studies course are taking part in the 2016 Shakespeare Off The Map competition, run by the National Videogame Arcade and the British Library.

Each team will create a game inspired by the works of Shakespeare, in accordance with one of the three competition themes:

  • Forests, Woodlands and A Midsummer Night’s Dream
  • Castles
  • The Tempest

Our intrepid students will be blogging about their progress.

Now in its fourth year, Off The Map challenges budding game makers to use collections from The British Library as inspiration to create exciting interactive digital media.

The 2016 Off The Map competition was launched at the tenth GameCity Festival and is associated with the British Library’s upcoming Shakespeare exhibition (15 April 2016 to 6 September 2016). A variety of illustrations, engravings, maps and sounds related to The Tempest and castles and forests that have been used as settings in Shakespeare’s plays will provide the basis for students to base their games on.
